Incontinence at NK Physio
1 in 2 women suffer from urinary incontinence. Yet many don’t seek help or discuss their issues due to embarrassment or feeling they just need to live with it. Here at NK Physio we have created a supportive Women’s Health service to help with various kinds of incontinence.
What is urinary incontinence?
Incontinence is the involuntary loss of bladder control. While 50% of women report a form of urinary incontinence there is often not a treatment plan readily available. Are you going through numerous pads every day? Or perhaps you no longer do exercise due to leakage. Urinary incontinence can have a significant impact on your daily life.
Stress incontinence – Have you noticed that you leak some urine when you cough, sneeze, laugh, exercise or jump on the trampoline with kids? This is due to the intra-abdominal pressure pushing down on your pelvic floor muscles causing leakage. This is often due to a weakness within our pelvic floor muscles and a lack of breathing awareness.
Urge incontinence – Have you ever needed the toilet and then as soon as you put your key in the front door you notice you leak urine? This is often due to lack of bladder/brain connection. This lack of awareness and bladder control can be treated with a plan from your therapist.
Our women’s health therapist can put you at ease and help improve your symptoms with a personalised tailored approach.
Who can we help?
We help women who:
- Accidentally leak urine when they laugh, cough, sneeze
- Leak urine when they run or take part in high-impact activities
- Leak urine when they lift heavy objects or part-take in weight lifting
- Frequently urinate during the day - we’re talking more than 10x
- Struggle to hold their bladder
- Struggle to fully empty their bladder
- Plan every outing around a public toilet
- And much more
